The Japanese office of Mitsubishi Motors has released a 60-second video dedicated to its WRC glory days. The otherwise normal clip ends on a mysterious SUV riding in the dark looking unlike any of the company’s current offerings.
The prevailing theory seems to be that it’s the next Pajero. The once-popular SUV has been absent for a while, and its alleged successor is barely visible in the video, but you can still discern a pair of roof rails, an upright tailgate, and L-shaped headlights with LED DRL stripes below. All this, plus the body proportions and the fenders, make us think that it could actually be a teaser of the next Pajero.
Rumor has it the new generation has been in development for a while now. Anonymous sources claim it uses the same body-on-frame platform as the Nissan Xterra, and is otherwise similar to the upcoming Xterra model. We also hear that it may arrive in the showrooms with a petrol V6 and an electric motor working together in a plug-in hybrid system. All this remains unconfirmed, of course, but we will keep you updated with any new details.
