The German automaker and part of the floundering Volkswagen Group has disclosed a cost-cutting plan valid through 2035. It involves major, but gradual layoffs and a discontinuation of a number of promising vehicle R&D projects.
Over the next decade, Porsche plans to reduce its staff by around 9,000. It claims the white collars will be prioritized for the layoffs, while actual factory workers have better odds at keeping their jobs. Aside from that, it promises to approach the matter delicately – for example, by waiting for persons approaching retirement to retire and then not filling the vacancy. However, even those lucky enough to stay on board will be facing various incentive and bonus cancellations in the coming years, Reuters reports citing Porsche reps.
The model range will inevitably be affected as well. In particular, the company’s all-electric Taycan SUV is expected to be discontinued for good. That’s sad news, considering it only got an imitated gear shifting system last month (watch the video above for details).
The ICE Boxster and Taycan 718 likely won’t reach the market, either, and the Porsche Cayenne lineup will be simplified going forward to streamline production.
In 2025, Porsche reported record-high expenses of approximately €3.9 billion and a net profit nosediving 92.7% compared to the year before (98.3% if you consider the vehicle division alone). It named losing competitive ground in China and rushing to replace ICE cars with EVs among the main contributing factors.
It’s worth pointing out that, even if Porsche manages to set their game straight, the company’s fate will still be at least partially decided by the performance of VW Group as it steers its way through the crisis.
