This ultra-black paint could be a cheap Vantablack substitute

A while ago, BMW unveiled an experimental BMW X6 covered in a Vantablack paint that absorbed up to 99.96% of visible light. The pigment vendor never intended to sell it outside of aerospace and military industries, but someone from Japan found a potentially viable alternative.

The Musou Black paint comes at around $24 per can and absorbs up to 99.4% of all light, essentially drowning your car in a black hole with the glass and lights sticking out from a shapeless dark blob. Watch the video for an impressive demonstration.

Regrettably, you cannot really use Musou Black to paint your ride right now: being water-based, it rubs off, scratches and peels off effortlessly. Covering it with a clear lacquer will be challenging and will likely mess with the light absorption index. Finally, the car will overheat much faster in direct sunlight, reaching potentially hazardous temperatures. But even so, it is nice to see the tech evolving! Perhaps one day, ultra-black pigments will become available as premium color options for select luxury cars.
