Nissan Serena hybrid gets AWD option in Japan

Those in the market for an all-wheel-drive Nissan Serena minivan previously had to settle for a petrol engine, but Nissan has now added a range-extender hybrid to the lineup.

It features the company’s standard e-Power drivetrain where a small 1.4-liter engine provides power for the main electric system. The engine generates 98 PS (97 hp / 72 kW) and is not connected to the wheels.

All propulsion is handled by a duo of electric motors – a 163-PS (161-hp / 120-kW) one at the front and an 82-PS (81-hp / 60-kW) one at the back. The respective torques amount to 315 and 195 Nm (232 and 144 lb-ft). The front motor is active by default, with the rear one assisting it when necessary.

Customers in Japan may buy this new Nissan Serena e-4orce starting from the equivalent of U.S. $24,400.
