VW Golf may be relocating to Mexico

Volkswagen is seriously considering shutting down its Golf assembly lines in Germany after half a century of production and moving it overseas to save costs.

According to a number of media reports coming from Germany, the company is looking for ways to slash its workforce expenses. For a model as compact and affordable as the Golf (well, at least until recently), every little bit of added manufacturing costs affects the end price. Unlike the automaker’s assorted SUVs, the Golf is not a high-margin product.

This is not the only reason why VW is considering the move, though. The factory in Germany is being retrofitted for EV production, and it would make business sense to move ICE car production elsewhere to free up the capacities.
