Toyota GR Corolla production migrates to the UK

Toyota plans to start producing its GR Corolla hot hatches in Great Britain next year, using the same assembly line where the standard Corolla hatchback and wagon are already being made.

Right now, the GR Corolla isn’t available in Europe or the UK. It is also made exclusively in Japan. Toyota reckons that, by launching a second production site, it will be able to meet the growing demand and expedite customer deliveries.

United States remains the single biggest market for hot hatchbacks, but with an impending 25% tariff on Japan imports, the situation may change. In contrast, the tariff on UK imports is only 10%, so we suppose Toyota could also be doing it to circumvent the tariffs. In fact, the announcement doesn’t clearly state whether the GR Corolla will go on sale in Europe in the near future or not; it could be exports-only.
