Xiaomi SU7 Ultra surpasses Mercedes-AMG One on the ‘Ring

Xiaomi has unleashed a prepped SU7 Ultra Nürburgring Limited Track Edition on the dreaded German racetrack, and it lapped it up in 6 minutes 22.091 seconds, coming ahead of the Mercedes-AMG One with its 6 minutes 29.09 seconds.

The special edition of the Chinese electric sedan is now officially recognized as one of the three fastest vehicles to ever attempt the Nürburgring. It was a prototype, but Xiaomi plans a 100-unit production run.

Like the regular SU7 Ultra, the car had 1,548 PS (1,527 hp / 1,140 kW) and 1,770 Nm (1,305 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal. It took advantage of Bilstein Evo R coilovers in the suspension, Pirelli semi-slick tires, Endless brakes and a revised body kit including a new hood, rear wing and undercarriage shields. Sparco carbon-backed seats with six-point safety harnesses and a roll semi-cage summed up the interior upgrades.

According to Xiaomi, the Ultra Track Edition grants drivers unrestricted access to its full power and torque, unlike the mass-produced sedan that requires you to perform several actions in a specific order. The company will be able to produce just 10 units before the end of the year, each priced at a hefty 814,900 Yuan (113,700 USD).

Earlier rumors claimed that the Ultra Track Edition would cost just 100,000 Yuan (14,000 USD) more than the base car. Speaking at a special event dedicated to the North Loop record, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun explained that 100,000 Yuan buys you a middle-ground package called Track Professional. It includes some components from the Ultra Track Edition, but not nearly all. A ready-made SU7 Ultra with this package installed will set you back 629,900 Yuan in China (roughly equivalent to U.S. $88,000).

The Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo still reigns supreme on the Nürburgring with a full lap time of 5 minutes 19.546 seconds. Ranking second is the all-electric Volkswagen ID.R with 6 minutes 5.336 seconds.

To commemorate this breakthrough accomplishment by the Chinese automaker, the 12th corner of the track now officially bears the name “Xiaomi Curve”.
