Miami tuner clads GM SUVs in armor

Miami Armored has unveiled its armoring program for all General Motors SUVs of the current model year. Let’s take a closer look at this bulletproof Cadillac Escalade.

Ballistic steel sheets envelop the entire cabin, so the doors get heavy-duty hinges to stay straight. Layered bulletproof windows are tinted all around, and the tires allow for some airless driving in an emergency. Extra cladding has been applied to the gas tank, the battery and the ECU. The whole sums up to BR6-grade protection, the company claims, which means the Escalade can withstand 7.62mm rifle fire and a simultaneous explosion of two hand grenades under the chassis.

The interior seen here is a four-seat Chairman spec. It’s already luxury-grade, but Miami Armored improves upon it with a large LCD, a high-end audio system and numerous touch panels for easy access to most in-car functions. Everything in sight is trimmed with plush leather.

To guarantee Internet access from the most remote corners of the world, the armored Escalade has a Starlink satellite receiver on the roof. We can’t say if it’s armored, but the company at least mentions “extreme weather protection”. The suspension is also reinforced all around, but the 426-PS (420-hp / 313-kW) V8 under the hood stays stock.
