Tuned Porsche 911 GT2 sets new Nürburgring record among road-legal cars

A Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series armed with 730 horsepower managed to set a North Loop record seven months ago with a lap time of 6:48.04, but this Porsche 911 GT2 RS tweaked by Manthey Racing turned out to be 4.7 seconds faster.

Included in the tuning kit are assorted brake, suspension and body components. The new kit increases the downforce by 21 kg (46 lbs) at the front and by 107 kg (236 lbs) in the back at 200 km/h (124 mph). Stock wheels get replaced with 20- or 21-inch aftermarket rims, and the rear pair wears aerodynamic hubcaps for better performance. All in all, the weight savings amount to just 11.4 kg, or 25 lbs.

The 3.8-liter flat-six engine stays stock, pumping out 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) along with 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque to the transmission.

Piloted by Porsche test pilot Lars Kern, the coupe managed to cover the 20.8-kilometer long North Loop in 6:43.3. If you count the older lap, which is around 200 meters shorter, the lap time is 6:38.8 – still around five seconds ahead of the AMG GT Black Series.

You can order the tuning package at any official Porsche dealership, and the car thus modified will still be considered stock for practical purposes.
