Novelties
Ferrari has taken the wraps off the SF90 Stradale, its latest sports coupe whose name celebrates 90 years of the Scuderia Ferrari racing team.
The newcomer is the company’s first PHEV on the lineup, powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 780 hp (582 kW) and 800 Nm (590 pound-feet) of torque and three electric motors combining their efforts for 220 hp (164 kW). The total output of the powertrain thus amounts to 1,000 hp (745 kW). The hypercar offers a meager 25 km (15.5 miles) of all-electric range.
An eight-speed semi-automatic transmission is used to send all this power to the wheels, and it is notably lacking the reverse gear. The electric motors are used for reverse movement instead.
The car sports all-new chassis and body partly made of carbon fiber. There is a shut-off Gurney flap situated in the rear that can plunge down to generate additional downforce (up to 400 kilograms, or 880 lbs, at 250 km/h, or 186 mph).
Weighing in at 1,570 kg / 3,460 lbs, the new Ferrari is 240 kilograms / 530 pounds heavier than the F8 Tributo. Despite this, the SF90 Stradale boasts better acceleration performance. For instance, it sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.5 seconds, while the F8 only manages the same in 2.9 s. Hitting 200 km/h (124 mph) from standstill is possible in 6.7 s, the company claims, whereas the F8 needs at least 7.8 s. If you want to maximize these figures, consider opting for the Assetto Fiorano package that includes aerodynamic parts, carbon-fiber doors, a titanium exhaust system, different shock absorbers, professional racing-grade tires etc. This will reduce the weight of the car by 30 kilos (66 lbs).
Open the door, and you are greeted by an enormous 16-inch digital dash screen, two dedicated touch panels for the ambient lighting and climate control, a HUD display, and a new gear selector stylized to look like the classical Ferrari gear switch.
The Ferrari SF90 Stradale should enter the market closer to 2020. Prices have not been announced yet, but you can safely expect the new model to come priced above the €400,000 of the 812 Superfast.
