Subaru reintroduces WRX wagon in Australia, shame about everywhere else

Subaru has confirmed that it will be bringing the WRX estate/wagon version back to the market Down Under. This body style was sent to retirement worldwide when the second generation of the sports car debuted 14 years ago, and many were anxious to see it back.

Alas, it looks like Australia will be the only lucky country to get the model for now. The company claims that it will combine “sportiness and utility” and will receive its own model name. This implies that the five-door wagon might end up with different powertrain and options compared to the sedan that debuted not long ago.

Jusging by the photos and the video released, it will look much like the Levorg wagon on the outside, with a few sports-friendly changes. For one, the bumpers and the wheels will look much more dynamic than those of the Levorg. As for the interior, we expect it to be mostly identical to that of the sedan.

Sales are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2022.

The new Subaru WRX comes equipped with a 2.4-liter flat engine available with six-speed manual and eight-range variable transmission potions. It churns out 271 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) to all four wheels. For the first time on record, it also benefits from adaptive suspension.
