Concept Cars

The German Xbus is a campervan, a truck and a bus combined

Electric Brands has introduced the first motorized prototype of its modular transformer car named the Xbus. The EV had previously only existed as a concept.

The vehicle has been registered under the L7e class, which imposes restrictions on its weight. Specifically, it must weigh in between 450 and 600 kilograms (992 – 1,322 lbs) without the traction battery. The main upside is that the safety rules imposed on this category of transports are rather liberal. Some other recent models, such as the Renault Twizy and the Microlino, also belong to the L7e category.

Four motorized wheels propel the Xbus forward with only 20 PS (20 hp / 15 kW), but can exert up to 76 PS (75 hp / 56 kW) for a short time when extra thrust is needed. By default, the model supports generative braking and has enough power cells for 200 km (124 miles) of range, but you can order extra batteries and solar panels to triple the range. Top speed will not exceed 100 km/h (62 mph).

The truly interesting thing about the Xbus is that it can be converted into a pickup truck, a passenger bus or an RV using dedicated modules. The company says that most modules will come in at €18,000 – €20,000 and support easy installation (two people can do it without any special tools).
