Lynk & Co 02 “Hatchback” debuts in China with added power

The Lynk & Co 02 emerged in 2018 as a crossover hatchback based on Volvo XC40 powertrains, architecture and wheelbase. It only had 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) until now, but a new version unveiled today brings along more power.

The performance car is dubbed simply “Hatchback”. This is not the first time the Chinese automaker releases more powerful editions of its existing models – think 03+ Sedan from a few years ago. The Hatchback has the same engine as the Sedan, but is limited to front-wheel drive. The 2.0-liter Drive-E turbo produces 254 PS (250 hp / 187 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) in conjunction with an Aisin 8-speed A/T.

The car needs 6.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph), 0.3s behind the 3+ model mentioned above and the same time as the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The top speed is not available yet.

On the outside, the Hatchback has large exhaust tips, lower ride height, tweaked suspension and a body kit that is painted to match the body, rather than black. No interior shots are available, but it would be safe to expect sporty details and accents there.

The novelty should arrive on the market in China around this summer.
