V6-powered Mazda MX-5 coming to the USA

For several years now, UK-based tuning company Rocketeer Cars has been swapping the Mazda MX-5 Miata to powerful and lightweight Jaguar V6 engines. It has now announced an expansion to the United States, something that will surely be welcomed by the numerous Miata enthusiasts there.

The base package is called MXV6 and includes a 3.0-liter, naturally aspirated Jaguar engine rated at 284 PS (276 hp / 206 kW). It will be available for roughly $29,000 with installation or $21,000 as a do-it-yourself engine kit. The first shipments are scheduled to begin in a few months, although we don’t have a specific date yet.

Those willing to max out the gains will appreciate to know that the tuner is also working on a package called Keiryō, which translates from Japanese as “lightweight”. The goal is to bump up the performance to around 380 PS (375 hp / 280 kW) while keeping the tiny roadster below 850 kilos (1,874 lbs). Once the development is complete, the Keiryō package will make the MX-5 a sportier ride than Lamborghini Huracan in terms of power-to-weight ratio.

Last but not least, those with older Miatas on their hands will be able to order a full restomod treatment. You’ll need to reach out to Rocketeer Cars for pricing.
