Mansory shows the electric G-Class how to be even more divisive

Kourosh Mansory’s design studio has produced a number of bespoke Mercedes-AMG G-Class builds over the years (see video), but it hasn’t tackled any EQG models until now.

The stylish package completely transforms how the SUV looks while retaining its original powertrain and chassis. It consists of a front bumper with DRLs, a couple of forged-carbon spoilers, a new radiator grille with the tuner’s badge, a hood and a LED bar for the roof. Widened fenders, side mirror caps and skirts complement the look from the sides, and a sharp-looking fanged diffuser rounds it off from the back. There seem to be aerodynamic shrouds on the roof wing and the d-pillars, but Mansory doesn’t say anything specific about any possible reduction in drag or in weight.

Those are, arguably, both extremely important points for the Mercedes G 580 EQ. The electric off-roader weighs more than three metric tons (6,600 lbs) and pushes 588 PS (580 hp / 432 kW) to the wheels along with 1,164 Nm (860 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels from four motors. It’s a decent enough sprinter with a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 4.7 seconds, but runs out of battery juice after just 470 kilometers (292 miles).
