Cupra unveils Terramar, its next SUV due out in early 2025

Cupra, a Spanish car brand owned by Volkswagen Group, has transferred its Terramar Concept from two years ago from sketches into reality. The first cars will reach their buyers in Europe at the beginning of the next year.

Like the Volkswagen Tiguan that it seems to be based on, the newcomer runs on the MQB Evo platform. At the same time, it has lots of Cupra DNA on display with its robust bumpers, Porsche-like ribbed hood, signature headlights and rear diffuser. Wheel options max out at 20 inches.

The interior is more or less that of the Tiguan unless you count all the minor “sporty” details, like new seats. The infotainment system uses two displays sized 10.25 and 12.9 inches and links to a 12-channel Sennheiser audio system.

In its most affordable guise, the Terramar gets a 1.5-liter engine and a seven-speed DCT to drive the front wheels with 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW). If you pay extra and get a 2.0-liter engine instead, you will get part-time AWD. There are two such engines on the list, one rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and the other one at 265 PS (261 hp / 195 kW).

Rounding off the list are two plug-in hybrids capable of 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW). Both come with a 100-km (62-mile) electric range.

Cupra claims that, compared to the Tiguan, the Terramar benefits from sportier suspension settings and a 10mm (0.4”) reduction in ride height. It can be optioned with performance brakes and adaptive shocks.

The assembly will take place at the same factory in Hungary where Audi produces its SUVs.
