Mazda MX-5 looks more JDM than ever in Kabuki Town livery

Mazda St-Michel dealership and Gisele Racing have united efforts to bring us this unique Mazda MX-5 Kabuki Town.

The whole body of the MX-5 is adorned with a graffiti-inspired livery. It intertwines the artistic motifs of ancient Japan with modern pop culture references. Ever imagined Godzilla standing next to a kabuki theater? Something like that.

Eric Lopez, from Mexico, came up with the original ornament. Boris Sandron, from Belgium, adjusted the design to fit the car. It still took 300 hours to draw the original, another 200 hours to apply it to the car, and 10 more to polish and lacquer the result. It’s fluorescent, by the way, so it glows in darkness.

Things stayed untouched in the powertrain department. The Belgian MX-5 (see video) utilizes a Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine to send 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW) to the wheels via a 6MT. That’s still plenty of power for the petite Mazda, which will now embark on a six-month tour around Europe. You will be able to buy it later on and name your price, but don’t bother with offers under $75,000, the artists warn.
