Kalmar’s second Porsche 911 (993) restomod weighs in under 1.2 tonnes

Kalmar Automotive has released its second “7-97 Classic” restomod for a U.S. customer. It rides on the same chassis as the Porsche 911 (993), but boasts an all-carbon body and weighs less despite putting out more power.

The exterior design is clean and laconic as befits a modern project car, but stays true to the Porsche roots. Aside from the bodywork, new parts include the headlights, the wheels, the engine lid in the back and the fender-mounted side mirrors.
The tuner mentions carbon-ceramic brakes of an in-house design, adaptive suspension with a lift system for going over speed bumps, and a modern drive mode selector with traction control.

A look inside reveals gorgeous black leather with blue stitching covering most surfaces. The seats are Recaro Sportster CS, and the ceiling is trimmed with blue Alcantara. Power comes from a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-six engine rated at 417 PS (411 hp / 307 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. It may not sound like much, but consider that the car itself barely weighs 1,200 kilograms (2,645 pounds) with all liquids in.

Kalmar had originally intended to base its 7-97 Classic lineup on the older 964 chassis (see video). After some extensive testing, the tuner decided that a newer model would be more optimal for the build.
