Great Wall premieres a V8 of its own design

Great Wall has demonstrated many new products at the recently concluded Shanghai Auto Show, but a V8 engine made in the house was arguably the biggest highlight.

The company had a motorbike V8 in its portfolio a while ago, but never designed a viable eight-cylinder block for a car – until now, that is. It has four liters of displacement, direct injection and two turbochargers sitting inside the V-shape. Great Wall’s nine-speed automatic transmission carries the momentum to the wheels, and the company says it has been reinforced to handle the steeper torque curve.

All numbers remain to be revealed, and we still don’t know what vehicles will be the first to make use of the company’s first internally designed V8.
