Here’s a Nissan 2000GT that leaves the GT-R in the dust

JDM Legends, a U.S. importer of Japanese classics, has posted a truly unique restomod up for sale. It’s called Kenmeri Skyline and looks like the legendary Nissan GT-R Mk2, but there is a heavily tuned 2000GT under that disguise.

Back when it came out, the standard Nissan 2000GT was only capable of 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW). The second-generation GT-R was considerably better off with 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) at its disposal, but it went out of production in 1973 with only 197 units made. This makes it easy to see why the tuners decided to build a replica instead of hunting down an original.

It's not like the replica is inferior in any way, either. It commands a 3.5-liter Maxima cylinder block retrofitted from diesel to petrol and upgraded with modern racing components. As a result, the mill sends 406 PS (400 hp / 299 kW) to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission borrowed from a Nissan 350Z.

The result is a great-looking car that outputs the same amount as the latest Nissan Z while weighing almost half a metric ton (1,000 lbs) less. Check out the videos to see how fast it goes.
