World’s longest limo found abandoned and vandalized

This 100-foot (30m) stretch limo is known as ‘The American Dream’. The car has starred in numerous Hollywood movies, but has been abandoned for years since.

There are many limousines in the world that would make a nice entry in the Guinness Book of Records. For instance, Elizabeth II’s personal transports in often called the most unusual, while Donald Trump’s car is widely known as the single most expensive vehicle of its kind. The monster you see here is the longest, created by the original Batmobile designer Jay Ohrberg.

Based on the Cadillac Eldoraro chassis, the car spans 100 feet (30.5 meters) long and rides on 24 wheels. The interior notably includes a Jacuzzi, a swimming pool with a trampoline, a royal bed, a mini-golf course and a helicopter pad. To put things into perspective, Trump’s ride of choice is only 21 ¾ feet (6.63 meters) long.

Since turning with a machine like this on a public road would be nigh impossible with a single driver’s cabin, two exist at the opposing ends, and two engines send their combined power to the wheels. There is an accordion connection in the middle of the car to help it fit at least some streets. For the rest of them, a special carrier vehicle was provided.

The project saw the daylight in 1992 and immediately made it to the Guinness Book as the longest light passenger car in human history. However, the public interest quickly evaporated, and the American Dream has spent the past five years sitting in a parking lot, where vandals found it and tore it down.

Not all is lost, though, as the car has already made way into one of the regional museums for complete restoration. The work is going to take a long time, but the crew promises to restore the Dream to its original glory.
