Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution sets a price record

A 21-year-old Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI changed hands in the UK for £146,250, marking an all-time high for this model.

Justifying the cost for collectors is the fact that the car was number 001 in a series of just 250 Tommi Makinen Edition cars made for Great Britain. As a Special Colour model, it also belonged to only 50 examples finished in red with white wheels and racecar livery fragments.

The Evo Mk6 has around 18,000 kilometers (11,800 miles) on the odometer and two owners in its record. It is reported to be in great condition with only an aftermarket exhaust to show for modifications – and the buyer got an OEM exhaust along with his purchase.

The original Tommi Makinen Edition (see video) celebrated the four victories its titular driver claimed in a world rally championship. The original rally car had different bumpers and suspension, sharper steering and a revised forced induction system that gave it an advantage of 25-30 horsepower (18 – 22.5 kilowatts) over the stock car.

Another Evo sedan with the chassis number 006 set a price record this spring, when Mitsubishi UK found a buyer willing to part with £100,000 for it.
