Check out a Datsun 1200 sports pickup from South Africa

SAR-based auto shop The Machining Man had long specialized in tuning the Nissan GT-R until Gary Law felt like trying something new. He ended up with a Datsun pickup whose racing chops rivaled those of the GT-R.

He bought the original Datsun 1200 for a song and proceeded to restore it to peak driving condition. While he was at it, he flared the wheel arches and put larger wheels with motorsport tires inside. But it was the stock 1.5-liter engine that got the most attention. It ended up with a custom crankshaft, high-compression pistons, reliable valves and cylinder heads, and a custom intake system featuring quad carburetors taken from Nissan R1 motorbikes.

As the video clearly demonstrates, Law built an amazing driver’s truck feeling at home on the highway and the track alike.
