Toyota GR Corolla hits the spotlight in the USA
After a long-winded promotional campaign, Toyota has finally taken the wraps off its GR Corolla model for the United States. Sales will start later this year, but in the meantime, let us look at the specs.
The hottest Corolla comes driven by a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine rated at a whopping 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed iMT gearbox sends the momentum to all four wheels. Acceleration times remain to be disclosed.
On the technical side of things, the car is based on a modified GA-C platform. The body is much stiffer than that of the standard version and rides on McPherson struts at the front and dual-wishbone suspension at the rear.
A quick glance at the exterior reveals new bumpers, buffed-up arches, a roof spoiler, 18-inch wheels and a trio of exhaust tips. The main highlight inside comes in the form of a digital ensemble comprising a virtual dash cluster and an infotainment display.
A special version called Circuit Edition has been announced for the next year. It will feature a carbon roof, red brake calipers, a larger spoiler, a ventilated hood, and suede seats.
