Beijing BJ212 spins off a special edition for sharpshooters

Having debuted nearly six decades ago, the Beijing BJ212 is a true legend of the Chinese car industry. The affordable SUV is still in production, and the sales should improve further with the introduction of a new version called Sniper.

The BJ212 Sniper runs on a new chassis borrowed from a military off-roader known as the BAW Warrior. This gives it a wider track and a solid beam for the front axle. All-terrain tires are included in the standard spec, and the ground clearance amounts to a respectable 245 mm (9.57 inches). Wading water is possible as long as the water is no higher than 600 mm (23.44 inches).

Powering the Sniper is a Mitsubishi petrol turbo engine with 2.4 liters of displacement, 211 PS (208 hp / 155 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed manual transmission carries the momentum to all four wheels through a reduction gear. LED headlights are available at a premium.

Prices in China start from the equivalent of U.S. $14,300.
