A modded Mazda RX-7 is up for grabs for $18k+

Wankel-engined cars have never taken over the market or the motorsports industry, but they do have their own advantages – and a cult following as well. This Mazda RX-7 on sale in the USA right now has some unusual modifications, but we are sure it will fetch a nice sum.

The owner had the exterior finished in a shade called Vintage Red and the stock wheels swapped for 16-inch five-spoke rims manufactured against a custom order. As befits a Japanese classic, the tires installed here are Toyo Proxes R888R and the suspension is lowered on coil-over springs. The brakes are also completely rebuilt with new rotors, calipers, pads and lines.

Power still comes from the standard 1.3-liter rotary engine, but a recent rebuild saw it lose its OEM twin-turbo system in favor of a single large turbocharger. Further replacements included spark plugs, injection nozzles and the ECU. The transmission was left stock except for a new, more robust clutch.

It is unclear what the output is, but the odometer reads 90,000 kilometers (56,000 miles). The current bid at Bring-a-Trailer is barely above 18,000 USD, but there are four more days until the auction ends.
