Premium automaker Genesis announced back at the NYIAS-2024 that it wanted to release a series of high-performance Magna cars based on its production models. The company previewed the design on a GV60 SUV it brought to the show, but Korean Car Blog is now reporting that it will not be the first Magma to reach the market.
According to rumors that currently remain unconfirmed, Genesis plans to do it with the G80 sedan first. The car, which is being unofficially touted as the potential rival to the BMW M5, will allegedly go on sale in the Middle East region and nowhere else. Furthermore, it will reportedly be capped at just 20 units.
According to these insider reports, every Genesis G80 Magma Special will get a turbocharged V6 rated at roughly 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW) mated to an eight-speed AT and all-wheel drive. It will also take advantage of tweaked suspension and possibly revised steering, too.
Judging by the NY premiere, the company has already devised an original body kit for the first Magma. It includes fender flares, new bumpers, spoilers and assorted carbon trim bits. The interior may get seats with enhanced lumbar support and should overall preserve the model’s focus on driving comfort over raw performance.
