Ford Mustang gets elevated to Saleen 302 Black Label

Saleen, a car customizer best known for its Ford conversions, has unveiled its latest project. Dubbed the Saleen 302, it is a maxed-out reimagination of the Ford Mustang with a 5.0-liter V8 under the hood. You can already preorder the Black Label spec, which starts from $108,990.

The company managed to extract 800 horsepower (596 kW) and 895 Nm (660 lb-ft) of torque out of the Coyote V8. The transmission options are stock: you choose between six-speed manual and ten-speed automatic. The suspension takes advantage of superior springs, shocks and stabilizers by default; you can additionally order advanced coilovers and struts. The wheels measure 20 inches across and the brakes use 13.9-inch large discs along with new pads and four-piston calipers.

The hood cover with air intakes, the bumpers, the diffuser with tailpipes grouped in the middle and the impressively sized rear wing have all been created from scratch for the Saleen 302. The interior makes use of aftermarket seats, steering wheel and transmission selector. The company offers exclusive trim opportunities to those interested in more customization.

According to CEO Steve Saleen, the company has more plans in store for the ‘Stang. Later on, a titanium exhaust system will be released that will make it sound “like a Formula 1 racecar”. Aside from that, the list of transmissions should get complemented with a sequential option. Just when Saleen may figure out how to best mate a sequential box with the Coyote V8 remains to be seen, as it’s not an easy process.
