Maserati rolls out an all-electric GranCabrio version

The new GranCabrio Folgore utilizes as many as three electric motors to drive the wheels with 829 PS (818 hp / 610 kW) and 1,350 Nm (996 lb-ft) of torque. The launch date is unannounced thus far.

The car uses the same powertrain as the GranTurismo Folgore before it. It can go 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds and reach 290 km/h (180 mph) in a straight line. The coupe version is one-tenth of a second faster on the uptake and can reach 302 km/h (187 mph).

Let’s take a closer look at the powertrain specs. Maserati explains that each individual motor can theoretically output up to 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW), but their combined power is hard-capped at 761 PS (750 hp / 560 kW) due to the limitations of the electric current sourced from the battery pack. By activating a feature called MaxBoost, drivers can briefly get the 829 metric horsepower mentioned above.

The battery itself is T-shaped and resides between/behind the seats. It stores up to 92.5 kWh of juice and yields between 419 and 447 km (260–277 miles) of range depending on the circumstances. Charging from a 270-kWh source gives you enough power for 100 km (62 miles) in just five minutes. Staying plugged in for 18 minutes gets the pack from 20% to 80% full.

Both the body of the car and its interior layout are unified with its petrol counterpart that debuted in late winter. Unlike that one, the EV is obtainable in a number of exclusive finishes with many additional soft top colors to choose from. The same goes for the interior, which can be trimmed with a unique and durable material called Econyl, made from recycled fishing nets and other plastic waste.
