Tuned Mercedes-AMG GT churns out 700+ hp, tuner plans 800+

German tuning company Opus has worked its magic on the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 supercar, leaving the looks stock but adding some oomph to the powertrain.

In its factory guise, the coupe sends up to 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) to the wheels along with up to 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. With the new ECU tune the power goes up to 710 PS (700 hp / 522 kW) and the torque to 950 Nm (701 lb-ft). As a result, the car hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in three seconds flat (-0.2s from stock) and doubles that acceleration in 9.5 seconds.

The Stage I tuning kit is expected to go on sale this May. A sports exhaust system should become available at roughly the same time. Opus plans to tune the powertrain further in the coming months, targeting 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW) and 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) of torque.
