Ford says it won’t force customers to abandon ICE cars

Ford Executive Chair William Ford said in a recent interview that the company didn’t like the idea of forcing its customers to eschew traditional fuel cars in favor of EVs.

He stressed that the transition needed to be gradual and in full agreement with the customers’ interests. He also opined that the popularity of the various electric vehicle projects and incentives fluctuated depending on the current government policies and election cycle.

The important takeaway is that, depending on who wins the next election in the United States, the public opinion of electric cars may drastically change. This imposes severe planning challenges on automakers and discourages bold moves, such as abandoning the ICE segment of the market and focusing exclusively on the EV segment.
