Track-ready Peugeot 309 GTi goes on sale

A heavily modified Peugeot 309 GTi packing 375 horsepower is heading to auction in the UK later this week. There is no asking price, but the owner had allegedly spent over £100,000 on the car and it still has as little as 113 km (70 miles) under its belt after the tuning.

The sporty coupe originally belonged to a former Prodrive engineer. The experienced tuner retrofitted the stock 1.9-liter four-cylinder engine with forged cylinder heads, new intake and exhaust systems, and a high-end Rotrex supercharger. When tanked with racing fuel, the car happily delivers 375 PS (370 hp / 276 kW) to the wheels. A new intercooler and radiator ensure adequate cooling on the circuit, even in long races, and the best part is that the car is still road-legal.

The brakes benefit from six-piston AP Racnig calipers at the front end, and there is a limited-slip differential for improved torque control and traction. The driveshafts are shorter than stock, and the same goes for the gear shifter. The interior houses a pair of Recaro buckets, an OMP steering wheel and a roll cage. The rest is stripped to reduce weight.
