Bruce Canepa orders a gorgeous Porsche 911 restomod from Sweden

Canepa, a luxury and sports vehicle showroom run by ex-racing driver Bruce Canepa, has commissioned a high-end restomod on a Porsche 911 (993) chassis. The car is on its way to getting all-new exterior, cabin and powertrain.

Responsible for the project is Kalmar Automotive, a Swedish company with no prior orders from the United States. That’s in the past, though, as the tuner says it wants more customers from overseas and could use a nice restomod like this one to show off in the portfolio.

You will be hard-pressed to recognize a 1990s-era Porsche in this car, because the bodywork is completely new and inspired by the 911 ST models of the distant 1970s. Three-piece forged wheels and lowered suspension serve to further emphasize the sleek body curves, resulting in a very sporty and elegant image.

The interior trim involves lots of off-green leather that looks quite unusual in a Porsche, as well as other premium materials. The gear shifter knob is made from natural wood. Like any high-end restomod, this one has plenty of creature comforts on board, such as an AC, power steering, rain sensors, and an audio system with Bluetooth support. Everything is disguised to look retro.

Power for the one-off racer comes from a 4.0-liter flat-six engine tuned to 401 PS (396 hp / 295 kW) and 426 Nm (314 lb-ft) of torque. Despite having an all-wheel-drive system, the coupe manages to weigh just a little above 1,200 kilos (2,645 pounds).

The pricing details haven’t been disclosed. The car will spend a while sitting at a window in Canepa's dealership; its future beyond that is unknown.
