Rare, moss-overgrown Toyota Celica can be yours for cheap

A rather exotic example of the fifth-gen Toyota Celica imported into the UK from Japan in the early 1990s is up for grabs on eBay right now for as little as £7,700. Reason? It has spent a decade and a half sitting out in the open without any maintenance.

It’s arguably still an interesting offer, though. Toyota produced a small number of GT-Four RC models back in 1991, seeking to homologate its Rally Group A model. Compared to the standard GT-Four, the RC variant featured a redesigned front bumper with added air intakes, an air-to-liquid intercooler (as opposed to air-to-air), a short-throw lever for the five-speed manual gearbox and a special edition plaque on the console.

Power for the homologation special came from a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine rated at 225 PS (221 hp / 165 kW) and 304 Nm (224 lb-ft) of torque. Granted, the car on sale is in a poor condition and needs some serious maintenance before it can be driven again.

But there is good news, too. For one, the seller claims the car has managed to stay watertight throughout the years, which explains the surprisingly well-preserved interior. As for the engine, it still starts despite all the rust. In other words, those willing to put in some effort into restoring a JDM classic are welcome to try it with this one.
