Volkswagen recalls the entire ID.4 fleet over self-opening doors

All affected electric crossovers may experience doors randomly swinging open while driving, potentially causing incidents and injury.

Apparently, the issue lies in the electronic board inside the door, which lacks proper moisture protection. In some cases, water may get inside and short-circuit the board, making it issue random commands to the lock mechanism. If you are unlucky, it can throw a door open on a highway.

This is actually the third time the entire VW ID.4 production batch gets recalled for a door lock issue. The company admits that some of the 98,806 SUVs currently being recalled had already visited dealerships twice for repairs – but the issue was never fixed.
