Check out a Porsche Cayenne pickup heading to SEMA

Car enthusiasts all over the world dream about bringing their wildest creations to the SEMA show in Las Vegas, and this year’s gathering will be attended by The Rad Factory bringing a truck-shaped Porsche Cayenne.

Working with a first-generation Cayenne, the tuner chopped its roof in half and grafted a custom bed onto the rear end. The original idea was to put a camping kit there and call it a day, but the project turned out even more challenging than originally expected.

For one thing, converting the Stuttgart premium SUV into just about anything is difficult because it lacks a proper ladder frame. To avoid deforming the body, the tuners tried to weld steel on the subframe simultaneously with cutting the metal, but the panels still ended up twisted. It took a while to fix, but all is fine now.

Another difficulty was presented by the rear quarter panels. You can watch the enclosed 20-minute video for an in-depth look. It took a lot of welding and Bondo polyester putty to hold things in place.

With the SEMA show opening its doors on November 5 – less than a month from now - The Rad Factory has its hands full. It has another conversion to exhibit this year – a Baja-tuned Mazda Miata, and that one also requires some work prior to the show. Here’s wishing the best of luck to this talented team!
