Take a BTS tour of Dodge Charger EV assembly line

Stellantis has posted a behind-the-scenes tour of its Dodge Charger Daytona assembly facility. The company proudly calls the two-door EV “the world’s first muscle car.”

We were told that production would begin in Ontario, Canada in mid-2024. However, Stellantis was only able to get the lines running in October this year. The first deliveries are now planned for early 2025 – more than six months past schedule.

It reportedly cost the American automotive corporation north of $3,000,000,000 to retrofit its Ontario site for EV production. The video highlights some of the difficulties it faced. For example, EVs need an entirely different powertrain layout to accommodate their motors, battery cells and electronics efficiently. Lots of new assembly machinery had to be installed to automate these production stages.

The base price was announced in late summer. The Dodge Charger Daytona is coming in two dual-motor versions. One is rated at 496 PS (489 hp / 365 kW) and starts from $61,950. The other one packs 670 PS (661 hp / 493 kW) and doesn’t have a sticker yet. Cheaper single-motor variants may follow later on, but this hasn’t been confirmed.
