Rumor: Nissan ditches merger deal with Honda

With all the silence surrounding the merger negotiations between the two Japanese automakers, we have nothing but rumors to go by – but they paint a clear picture.

Specifically, the latest bunch of reports from the country states that Makoto Uchida, the CEO of Nissan, has formally notified Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe about the talks being over. Apparently, the conditions proposed by the better-performing company didn’t suit the struggling Nissan.

After reportedly ditching the deal with Honda, Nissan is now looking for other potential partners. According to the reports, it is once again in talks with Taiwanese semiconductor company Foxconn after putting them on halt for Honda in late 2024.
