Check out an amateur cross between Toyota Celica & MR2

A car enthusiast from the UK acquired an old Toyota MR2 left abandoned after its owner passed away. He used parts from a totaled seventh-gen Celica to turn it into an odd-looking, but quite usable roadster.

The front bumper, the fenders and the hood are all Celica transplants. The headlights are an aftermarket model, and the rear spoiler comes from a Subaru WRX. The rest of the body stays stock MR2 (model year 2000, to be specific), but the owner is working on replacing some parts with his homemade glass-fiber components.

The interior is as bare as you’d expect from a street-legal track tool, which this mashup aspires to be when complete. The engine is still stock, producing 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) and 171 Nm (126 lb-ft) of torque from 1.8 liters of displacement.

The owner admits that the build is not complete yet, and his lack of spare money and experience result in slow progress. Even so, it has only been a few months so far, and the result may be the only cross between the Celica and the MR2 in existence. The former is a front-engined, FWD liftback with four seats, while the latter is a mid-engined, RWD two-seat roadster. Fusing them together is no easy feat.
