Ford aspires to be America’s first sub-7-second company on the North Loop

No car made in the United States has managed to complete a full Nürburgring lap in under seven minutes, but Ford believes it has what it takes to change that.

The new Mustang GTD will soon travel to Europe to attempt a new record. The company reckons it may beat the high score of 6 minutes 44.848 seconds set by the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

As of now, the SRT Viper ACR is America’s fastest ride on the formidable German raceway, with a lap time of 7 minutes 1.3 seconds.
