Ford to halt F-150 Lightning production

Ford says it will be pausing the production of its “best-selling” electric truck in Michigan from November 15 until January 6 at the least.

As hopeful as the company was for the pickup, its popularity quickly trickled out and dealers’ inventories began to clutter up. In January–September 2024, the company has only managed to find buyers for 22,807 F-150 Lightning units in the United States. That’s nearly twice as much compared to the same period year-on-year, but still way behind the automaker’s expectations.

While the electric truck seems to have failed to gain traction with its intended target audience, its fuel-powered cousin fares as well as it ever has. Ford has sold over 550,000 examples of the ICE F-150 in the first nine months of the year.
