Sky’s the Limit: Tuners find things to improve about Ferrari F40

Ferrari supercars are instant icons, and this rings especially true for the F40 co-designed with Enzo Ferrari himself before his retirement. It’s a lot of car to control, though, and some aftermarket specialists are bold enough to think they can fix it.

The tuning proposal comes from Officine Fioravanti in Turin, Italy. The young company knows better not to mess with the car’s iconic exterior, but replaces a number of mechanical parts to make driving it more manageable.

For one thing, the F40 is infamous for its sudden and sharp turbo lag. For all we know, it might have been the reason Lando Norris’ F40 crashed in Monaco a few weeks ago. It doesn’t help that the car lacks modern electronic stabilizers and assists.

To reign in the wild beast that is the F40, the tuner proposes a complete overhaul of the suspension with four-way adjustable Öhlins TTX 36 shocks at its base. Braking should become easier with carbon-ceramic rotors and Brembo six-piston calipers at the front end, while the rear end should be just fine with four-piston ones. Some ABS improvements are also due, and steering becomes much less daunting with hydraulic assistance.

On the outside, the wild Italian beast looks the same except for the wheels. It’s an aftermarket set looking almost the same as stock, but installed in 18 inches size at the front and 19 inches at the back. For tires, the company suggests either Michelin Cup 2 or Pirelli P Zero.

Officine Fioravanti calls the tuning “Alte Prestazioni“, which simply means “high performance”.
