$162k is too little for this 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R

Sotheby’s Motorsport has recently put a rare Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) V-Spec up for sale with over 14,000 km (8,700 miles) on the odometer. Someone volunteered $162,000 for it, but the seller withdrew from the deal, believing the 25-year-old Japanese sports car to be worth more than that.

The V-Spec (see video) featured a stiffer suspension compared to the standard GT-R lineup, Nissan Attesa E-TS Pro AWD and an active limited-slip differential instead of the standard car’s mechanical diff lock. It also boasted an optimized body kit that reportedly improved the airflow around the body and under the chassis while reducing the ground clearance.

On paper, the V-Spec came equipped with the same 2.6-liter twin-turbo engine as the regular R34 GT-R. It was actually boosted to a higher output, but Nissan continued to rate it at 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW) in Japan to conform with a tradition of the time. Enthusiasts measured the actual output much closer to 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW). The only transmission option was six-speed manual.

The example that went on sale the other day was in great condition with the latest maintenance performed six months before the sale. It had climate control on board, an infotainment system and a Kakimoto aftermarket exhaust.
