BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe gets two new powertrains

BMW will soon start shipping its 2-Series Gran Coupe with a mild-hybrid and an entry-level ICE powertrain option.

The cheapest 2-Series in the lineup is called the 216. It runs on a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine rated at 122 PS (120 hp / 90 kW) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft). A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission allows it to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.9 seconds.

In turn, the new BMW 223 combines a petrol four-pot rated at 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) with an electric motor and all-wheel drive. It completes the sprint in 6.4 seconds.

Both versions are already in production in Leipzig, Germany.
