DS SM Tribute production canceled

You may have heard that Citroen’s now-independent DS sub-brand was thinking about producing its stylish SM Tribute Concept in a limited run. Well, it’s now officially not the case.

A number of media in Europe have reposted rumors about a certain coachbuilder willing to launch the production of the SM Tribute based on a stock Maserati GranTurismo chassis and a 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 engine. It would make certain sense, too, considering that the original Citroen SM dating back to year 1970 also had a Maserati-sourced V6 under the hood. It was speculated that the price would hover around U.S. $1,000,000.

Speaking in a recent interview, DS Design Director Thierry Metroz opined that he would be happy to see such a car production in a small quantity. Seeking an official comment, the media made a formal inquiry to DS and Stellantis, asking whether a car like that was in the works.

The reply was unambiguous: no, the SM Tribute has no production prospects whatsoever.
