Renault aspires to set new EV range records, needs a special car to do so

The Renault Filante Record 2025 is an all-electric vehicle prototype set to debut at an auto show in Paris, France later this month. Once out of the show, it will be prepared for a world record in EV range.

The company boasts that the car weighs less than one metric ton (2,200 lbs) despite being over five meters (16.4 feet) long. It makes intensive use of 3D-printed aluminum chassis parts and carbon-fiber body panels. The interior is every bit as deliberate about leaving no excess weight on board.

19-inch Michelin tires seen on the wheels are being described as “ultra low-drag”, or 40% less resistant than your average tire. All steering and braking is implemented by-wire without any physical link from the steering wheel to the wheels, and the battery pack on board is rated at a solid 87 kilowatt-hours.

Renault hopes to set a new record in EV driving range per charge sometime in the first half of 2025.
