Safari-themed Ford Mustang snatches $152k

A rather bold project car with the underpinnings of a normal Ford Mustang convertible, a V8 under the hood, off-road tires and lots of hang-on equipment has won quite an auction the other day, bringing its seller U.S. $152,000.

Starting with a 1968 ‘Stang, the tuning company first tried to stylize the classic car after the legendary Shelby GT500. It ended up with a stylish off-roader packing a powerful Coyote V8 and a five-speed manual transmission, as well as a gorgeous cabin trimmed with natural leather.

To make sure things go smoothly away from the trodden path, the car received a set of Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, a full-fledged spare wheel attached to the trunk, and a quartet of bright floodlights on a tall roll bar.

To be entirely clear, all-wheel drive is still not there, and the suspension has such short amount of travel that you wouldn’t want to take it off the asphalt. For what it’s worth, there is a diff lock at the rear end, but that’s it.

Despite not being as capable as some “true” Safari builds, the car has apparently sold for more than the owner spent building it (reportedly around $110,000).
