Luxeed R7 gets a long-range hybrid powertrain

Luxeed, a Chinese car brand co-founded between Huawei and Chery in 2023, announced a new version of its R7 coupe-SUV. If going all-electric is too expensive for you, consider this new serial hybrid starting from 249,800 Yuan.

The crossover is sized 4,956 x 1,981 x 1,634 mm with 2,950 mm between the axles. It otherwise looks identical to its EV cousin unless you order it in turquoise color – that one’s reserved for the hybrid. The 12.3-inch digital dash and 15.6-inch infotainment display are the same, mounted atop the front panel close to the windshield.

The new range extender powertrain pumps out 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) and 360 Nm (266 lb-ft) of torque to the rear axle. A 1.5-liter turbo engine burns petrol for 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW), but this power all goes into charging a 37-kWh CATL battery on board.

Equipped like this, the SUV goes 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.4 seconds and ultimately hits 200 km/h (124 mph). It can cover up to 251 km (156 miles) in all-electric mode and up to 1,570 km (975 miles) with the gas tank full.

Buyers can choose from two trim levels at this moment. The more expensive one comes with a LiDAR and offers more advanced self-driving capabilities compared to the base trim; that’s the biggest difference.
