Hongqi H6 becomes a convertible

FAW Group’s Hongqi brand has patented another trademark, an H6 cabriolet based on the liftback by the same name. The premium automaker hasn’t properly announced this version yet, reports AutoHome.cn.

The submitted images depict a vehicle looking largely the same as the Hongqi H6 liftback (see video). The nose and the tail in particular look only marginally different. The novelty largely boils down to an automatic cloth top and original five-spoke wheels.

The original H6 model is sized 4,990 x 1,880 x 1,445 millimeters large with 2,920 mm of wheelbase. The convertible seems to be the same size. There are no powertrain details mentioned in the trademark application, but the liftback is obtainable with 2.0-liter engines rated at 224 PS (221 hp / 165 kW) and 252 PS (249 hp / 185 kW). Both variants come bundled with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Note that patenting a new car model doesn’t guarantee that it gets released anytime soon. Hongqi is a traditional, patriotic brand servicing the domestic market of China first and foremost, and cabriolets aren’t particularly popular there.
