Toyota GR Corolla gets sporty for North America

The hottest GR Corolla hatchback (see video) will soon be getting a special edition in the United States.

In the meantime, all we have is these photos of a camouflaged prototype. Toyota says the car has an enhanced aerodynamic profile, increased engine torque, extra air intakes and track-friendly chassis tweaks. Like the model it is based upon, it’s AWD by default.

The prototype is still running its pre-production tests. Once it’s ready, Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda himself will get behind the steering wheel for a final round of performance checks. It should be ready to debut with full specifications this autumn, the company reckons.
